What a week it’s been…!

Neil Collett – Last week Marcia Easton (Box), Sue Fletcher (Wroughton), Graham Hatherall and Neil Collett (both Royal Wootton Bassett) recovered from 4-5 (5 ends) to win 21-5, with a couple of ends to spare, on a challenging Blue Circle BC green in the National Mixed Fours.  The win also saw Marcia and Neil complete the double over Karen and Les Kirby, who they also defeated (17-10)at RWB BC in the Mixed Pairs a couple of weeks ago.

Marcia, Sue, Graham and Neil are away again in the next round and face a tough match at Spencer Moulton, where they will play Debbie Shadwell (Box), Kathryn Yeoman (Box) Neil Yeoman and Russell Francis (both Spencer Moulton).  Last year Debbie, Kathryn, Graham and Neil played together winning both the Wiltshire area and regional finals at Brimfield and Little Hereford BC (Ludlow) before losing out 10-11 in a reduced (10 end match) in the national quarterfinals at Leamington Spa BC.

Alan Small – Tuesday triples afternoon league started for the C Team vs Cricklade whose green was flooded and had to revert to RWB green. We won 10-0 and included members new to bowling . Great start. Wednesday we rocked up at Marlborough in the Wilts League. Unfortunately Bassett could not handle probably the heaviest green I have ever played on and lost 11-3.  Thursday Bassett B team were away at Westlecot Swindon and included 2 bowlers making their debut, David Bowler and Peter Williams. Both played well and Bassett won all four rinks 14-0 score.

Also played in the County Rinks competition on Tuesday night against a very competent Westlecot four and won  which then entitled us to play a very talented Westlecot four at Westlecot. What a game, extra end played to decide the winners and #BassettInternational got over the line by 2 shots. Trying to decide if my aged body will be ok for the Saturday friendly in the afternoon.

Sunday 14th May, starting at 11am is a Middleton Cup – County Trial match Wiltshire vs Oxfordshire.  Great bowling and the clubhouse bar was open.

James Nobbs – Men’s County Fours 2nd Round  – was played at Bassett. Current holders Neil Collett’s rink played – S Murray (Highworth) ! Won 19-11…

Away draws for the rest of the teams as Dave Godwin played – Wroughton, Dave Snell played – Westlecot and Andy Crump played Stratton…….

Fantastic week….

And – Tonight 15th May – 6.15pm – our International Legends are playing …. D Snell – Royal Wootton Bassett home to R Francis – Spencer Moulton
